Anyone can write a diet book

So that would certainly hold true for a blog I'm thinking.

Let me tell you my story. I am a vegetarian. I am overweight. And I am on a journey to unload some of those pounds. Why? Nope, no lofty concerns about health here. I just hate how I look.

I have a 19 month old. And while I wasn't skinny before here, I've discovered I have a good 20 plus pounds I lug around after her. And thats not counting weight of wriggly toddler, diaper bag and assorted paraphernalia that seems to accompany you wherever you go with a kid. I'd always subscribed to the 'it took 9 months to put it on, it takes that long to take it off' school of opinion. Except... refer to age of child.

So with much shock, I realized some weeks ago that I have a child about to be 18 months old and I'm the fattest I've ever been. I went out and looked for stuff to do. Over the years of playing with diets, like we all do, whether we're overweight or not, I've discovered that I do well on a higher protein diet. Which is no mean feat for a vegetarian. The entire world seems to think the V word is synonymous with Carbohydrate. 'Oh you're vegetarian, how about a nice steaming plate of pasta? In cream? With a smattering of cheese?’ And very little else. To which I answered with a resounding yes for the most part. And therefore we have this blog ;).

As an obsessive googler (errrrrmmm obsessive in general who are we kidding) and reader of books, I looked up tons of resources for weight loss. Many books, blogs and reports later I've discovered the following. Most of them are great. Except they require meat. And... If not you’ve got this wonderfully sensitive statement somewhere three quarters down said document 'this diet is totally modifiable for vegetarians, just substitute with tofu and eggs'. Seriously? I know those are key veg proteins, but one tastes of gloppy nothingness and the other I don’t eat (not unless it’s covered in chocolate and fab carbs, which defeats the purpose, but I digress). So I enlisted the help of my nutritionist mom and a couple of online counter tools and created my own. And it’s working. I've lost 13 pounds in 8 weeks and while I’ve hit a plateau this past week, I'm working on ways to overcome it.

So I thought I’d share... and from a selfish point of view, make things public so I'll be forced to go the distance.

I won’t promise to write every day. I'll try to do once if not a couple of times a week. And hopefully it'll help someone out there.

Think happy, thin thoughts. Kiss kiss.
